We are delighted to welcome you to the first journal entry from Breathe. A space we have designed to share our thoughts and passion around wellbeing and good sleep. Here you will find some of our favourite podcasts and recipes as well as some helpful tips and advice for managing wellbeing, with a big focus on getting the best sleep possible. We hope you find this space somewhere you can come for 5 minutes of calm.

Stress Awareness Month

April is stress awareness month. A factor which has significant impact on good sleep and in turn causes more stress. In our busy world stress is something that plays a daily role in most of our lives and can cause a lot of damage to our health.

This year the Stress Management Society have given the theme of 'Look After Yourself' as a key way of managing your stress. Below are 4 key tips to help you manage stress, taken from the Stress Management Society guidance. You can also find some great resources on their site using the button below, including their 30 day challenge to reduce stress and boost your wellbeing.

  1. Talk about Stress and it’s effects – lets work together to reduce the stigma that is associated with stress by talking about the topic openly and freely with friends, family and colleagues.
  2. Share your coping mechanisms – if something has worked for you why not share it. It might benefit someone you care about and in the meantime, it might help you take your focus off your own challenges.
  3. Be nice to those who are stressed and anxious – we are all undoubtedly going to experience stress and anxiety in our lifetime so treat others going through it with compassion and empathy.
  4. Look after yourself – we all need to think more about self–care. Take time out of your day to relax or do something that you enjoy. Don’t forget to exercise and eat well, even when you feel too stressed.

The most crucial thing you can do when you are stressed or anxious is to make sure you are continuing to look after yourself. Make time to relax when you need to and learn to say no to requests that are too much for you.

Look after yourself is the Stress Management Society's theme for this years Stress Awareness Month and we think our customers are doing this with enthusiasm.
